Although no official statement was made on the subject, sector representatives were informed and it was announced that the wheat import restriction applied under the Inward Processing Regime (DİR) was completely lifted as of March 19.

As it will be recalled, when the decision was first announced, an 85 percent domestic market and 15 percent import quota was implemented. In other words, only 15 tons of wheat import was allowed for every 85 tons purchased from the TMO. Considering the price balance and competition in foreign markets, the ratio in question was later updated to 75 percent domestic and 25 percent imported wheat.

Flour industrialists will now be able to import wheat without quota under the DİR.
