The crisis in the USA, which has been struggling with bird flu for more than two years and where millions of chickens have been culled, has been caused by the shrinking supply of eggs and the rapid increase in prices.
Stating that they, as the producer sector, have decided to fix egg prices during Ramadan and that there will be no price increase, İbrahim Afyon said, "Turkey's egg production sufficiency rate is at 115 percent.
In addition, there has been a decrease in our exports to Gulf countries recently. We used to send 75-80 containers of products per week to Gulf countries, but now we send 20-25 containers of goods. Therefore, the product to be sent to the USA will not create a problem for the domestic market. In addition, the production capacity in the sector has been increasing in the last two months. Our egg production sufficiency rate will increase to 125 percent towards April."
In the USA, egg costs have increased by 51 percent in the past year, from $3.50 to $5.29. The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts that the cost of eggs will increase by about 20 percent through 2025.
